At Creagh College, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence, where every student is empowered to achieve their full potential. Academic attainment is at the heart of everything we do, with a particular focus on achievement and progression for all. In every year group, from 1st to 6th year, we set clear and achievable attainment targets to meet the evolving needs of our students, ensuring they are supported and challenged as they progress through their educational journey. Our commitment to high standards, innovative teaching, and personal growth ensures students are equipped not only to excel in exams but also to thrive in their future studies and careers.
1st Year Attainment
In first year, we focus on helping students lay the foundation for strong academic attainment by equipping them with essential study habits and skills. All students take part in study skills classes embedded across their subjects, giving them the tools to approach class tests and term assessments with confidence.
Through our ‘Study Start-Up’ Programme, students are guided by Transition Year Leaders to improve their homework routines, organisational skills, and study techniques in a supportive, peer-led environment. This program is designed to set students up for long-term academic success.
Our lessons are carefully planned to engage all types of learners—whether they thrive on practical activities, visual learning, or group discussions—ensuring that every child is given the opportunity to succeed. Regular homework and classwork help students consolidate their knowledge and practice the skills they’ve learned. To foster a culture of achievement, we celebrate and reward students who excel academically, demonstrate consistent hard work, or show remarkable progress throughout the year.
2nd Year Attainment
Second year is a key stage in building momentum toward academic attainment, as students begin their Junior Cycle journey with Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) across all their subjects. These assessments provide opportunities for students to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
We work closely with parents to ensure students feel supported, holding a Parents' Information Evening early in the year to explain the Junior Cycle process and strengthen the connection between home and school. This collaboration is vital in helping students achieve their full potential.
Throughout the year, we maintain a strong focus on study skills development, ensuring students refine their learning techniques across all subjects. Lessons are designed to be engaging and interactive, tailored to meet the needs of different learning styles. Homework and classwork are key to reinforcing learning and building the skills needed for success in assessments.
To highlight and celebrate achievement, we regularly recognise and reward students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance, exceptional effort, and significant improvement. This encourages all students to aim high and stay motivated in their academic progression.

3rd Year Attainment
In third year, our focus is on supporting students as they strive for high levels of academic attainment while preparing for Mock Exams, State Examinations, and project deadlines. This is a pivotal year, and we work with students to help them build the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
Teachers provide ongoing guidance in refining study techniques and time management skills. Lessons are designed to actively engage students, accommodating different learning styles to ensure every child has the opportunity to excel. Homework and projects play an essential role in consolidating knowledge, practicing key skills, and preparing for assessments.
We are committed to celebrating attainment in all its forms, recognising students for their academic excellence, dedication, and most improved performance. These awards reinforce the value of hard work and perseverance while inspiring students to reach their full potential during this important year.
